In 2017, the founder started making granola for her then 5-year-old daughter, who was allergic to gluten. Wholegrain rolled oats are gluten-free and fit perfectly into her daughter’s gluten-free diet. In her excitement of stumbling on a new meal option, she posted it on Instagram with the caption, ‘granola for sale’ and in the comment section, an acquaintance asked if it could be delivered to Abuja. Abiola responded that she is not yet supplying interstate but will let her know when that happens. A few minutes later, a colleague in the office also commented that she would like to buy. This time around, Abiola promised to bring it to work
Abiola felt she could easily sell it to just one colleague any time she needed it. Then, from one colleague, it grew to two, to three, and more online buyers continued to send in their orders. By 2019, the annual sales had jumped to over one million naira from just three hundred thousand naira the previous year. That’s when Abiola decided to register with CAC and get NAFDAC certification. Post-NAFDAC approval gave the business leverage to distribute in neighborhood stores on the mainland and the island. As the company grew, Abiolas firmed up its standard operating procedures and quality control measures to achieve the value promised to customers.
